C-Section Mama

C-Section Mama

I had an amazing pregnancy. Other than being so nauseous the first trimester, the rest of it was amazing! I felt perfect! The word C-Section never even came out of my mouth. Why would it? At the time, no one in my entire family had

Night Potty Training

Night Potty Training

Im back with some more potty training tips! This time it’s all about nighttime, and again, we didn’t follow many of the “rules.” To start, for some odd reason, after he turned 2, if he would sleep in a regular bed, (at my moms or when he was sick and in our bed) he wouldn’t wet his diaper. (also we never used pull-ups. I wanted to go right from diaper to no diaper with as little confusion as possible) So when we changed his crib into a bed he could get out of, we thought it was time to take this step for nighttime! At this point he was just under 2.5 years old, and had mastered daytime potty training. So new bed, it’s go time!

Tip #1 FLUIDS – I’m still breastfeeding Grayson before bedtime. So taking away fluids before bed was never going to work for us. I needed to be able to give him milk, and put him to bed right after. So we really pushed for after dinner to not be drinking as much, then when it was time to brush his teeth, he had to sit on the potty until he pee’d. Then milk time, and bedtime.

Tip #2 EXPLAIN – Yes they are little, but if they’ve understood and got the day time potty training down, nighttime isn’t overly different. Explain to them what will happen if they don’t get up to pee. Tell them to go to the bathroom, come to your room, yell for you, whatever you want them to do just explain, and tell them! They will eventually understand.

Tip #3 LOCATION – Is the bathroom far from their room? Ours isn’t, it’s literally the room beside Grayson’s. But that being said, it is pretty scary to get up and find the bathroom in the nighttime. So we tried putting a nightlight in his room, the hallway, and the bathroom. This did not work hahaha. He was still too scared. Then we put his potty in his room and that worked! He got up and would use it when he needed to.

Tip #4 NEW – This tip is also in my blog post about day time potty training which you can find Here. Get them some new pyjamas, new blankets, new stuffy even! Anything to use to try and help them not want to pee on their new items.

Tip #5 PATIENCE – Ya it sucks getting up in the night because they’ve pee’d the bed, but remember it isn’t fun for them either. It will happen when they are ready and all you can do is support them and let them know it’s ok!

Alright that’s it! I hope this helped at least 1 person! We had a pretty easy time with it. it was only a few times he wet the bed in the middle of the night. And then only a few times he woke up in the morning to a wet bed. BUT when we moved, the first month was wetting the bed allllllllll the time! He did it more in that month that he did in 6 months combined! It was not fun at all. But thankfully it all stopped and no problems anymore. It was a rough month lets just say that haha

How I Potty Trained My 2 Year Old

How I Potty Trained My 2 Year Old

This is a post I’ve been meaning to write for awhile, as it’s one of the most asked questions I get. Just 5 days after Grayson turned 2, we knew it was time to start potty training him. He had been showing many signs for 6 months and I kept ignoring them thinking it was too soon. So here we were, with a freshly turned 2 year old, & me who had no idea what I was getting myself into. I did assume ok, several accidents a day, a lot of cleaning, washing, scrubbing, lets go! (But first I did have to purchase the cutest potty I’ve ever seen!) I’ll be clear on this, I didn’t google a single thing about potty training, I was just going to do it my way and what worked for our family. So another disclaimer, I didn’t bribe him with a single thing. (other than tv for the first 2 weeks) That is not how I wanted to do it and at that age, even still now, he is not aloud candy, sweets, chocolate bars, or anything like that. So that method was not going to work for us. But don’t let that stop you from doing it! I’ve heard it works wonders! It just wasn’t what I did. I did however, scream, yell, and do a dance and song every time he pee’d!

Day 1 Naked baby! This is what started his love for being naked haha so many of you are always laughing messaging me about how he’s naked 24/7. This is very true, if we are home, he’s most likely naked. So day 1 was here and I stripped him down when he woke up, we went downstairs, turned paw patrol on, and he basically sat on the potty the entire day. It was something new and fun, and if it included tv, he was there! I asked him all day long if he had to pee, and by the end of the day, only 1 accident! I was blown away! He was soooo proud of himself each time he went & so was I! This was where the screaming, yelling, and song & dance came in!

Day 2 – It went the same as the first, tv all day, he mostly sat on his potty, & I would continue to ask if he had to pee. End of the day came, only 1 accident again.

Day 3 – Again, same thing, and at this point he was starting to recognize it more and was more aware of what was happening. Skip to day 5, and he was accident free! Now coming into the second week, I knew I needed to change something. We had been talking about taking the tv away from him entirely so I needed to get to that point. So week 2 I turned the volume off. He watched tv all week again but with no volume. Accident here & there but never 2 in the same day. Week 3 was where I started to panic. It was time to completely remove the tv. I thought this was where the problems were going to start! Nothing, he didn’t care one bit, and he actually went from December until March with absolutely no tv. I would watch my shows which he didn’t care about, and he got nothing. (Just an experiment for some problems we had been having and it solved all of them) We would bring his potty everywhere we went so he was comfortable with it. We did use public bathrooms though as much as possible. They gross me out but I know several kids who were afraid of them from the automatic flushing, so I wanted Grayson to be completely fine going to the bathroom in them. He actually loved the flushing and found it funny LOL

Fast forward to week 6 and we started having problems. We had company come stay with us for New Years. Their kids are both older than Grayson, and he was having accident after accident. I don’t really know why this happened, if it was an attention thing? I’m really not sure whatsoever. But this was the first time he was having more than one accident in a day. Then when they left, it took a couple weeks to get back into our routine, & then another problem! He started only having accidents in the car! Which was a place he had never had one before. So that was super fun. NOT! Then that time passed and everything has been smooth sailing since! Ya he still has an accident here & there, it happens! But for the most part, potty training was far more easy than I expected. Oh! Also, he never had a poop accident which was AMAZING! He enjoyed going on the potty and that was never an issue. The first 2 weeks he did cry a bit when he would poop on the potty. Seeing it come out of him scared him for some reason. But that didn’t last long and that part has been pretty easy! He actually just had one for the first time a month ago. Hubby was whipper snipping the lawn and Grayson kept going up to him to ask to use the bathroom, and Gary would yell at him to get away from him so he didn’t get hurt. (He didn’t hear what he was asking) Well hahaha he eventually couldn’t hold it any longer and pooped his pants then cried and said he was so sorry LOL I wasn’t there so never had to clean that up! Poop free for me! hahaha

I hope this helps someone. Just know to not give up. Buy them some cute underwear that they love! Make it fun for them! And as hard as it is to not get frustrated with them, take a deep breath, and know, this too shall pass. When they are ready, they are ready. Every child is different! Good luck!

My New Teeth Whitening Routine (That Actually Works!)

My New Teeth Whitening Routine (That Actually Works!)

I have never loved my smile as much as I do now! It has fully given me my confidence back, and I want to share with you exactly what I did! (Post Sponsored By Smile Brilliant. All opinions & experiences are my own)

Custom Teeth Whitening Trays (By Smile Brilliant )- So first I want to tell you all about the method I tried, which is whitening trays. They are made to custom fit your mouth. You then line the trays with the whitening gel and pop them in! Custom trays have full coverage for your mouth and get right in-between the teeth where other whitening options cannot provide that. Trays are extremely safe for both enamel and gums. This is so important to look for in a teeth whitening product, as damaging your mouth is NOT what you’re looking to do!  Many dentists provide this exact same method, which should tell you how effective and reliable it is! The results are noticeable and permanent! (obviously little maintenance is required. Every few months you should pop your trays back in to keep up that perfect white smile!) They are very safe for sensitive teeth and gums. You should be whitening anywhere from 45 minutes to 3 hours. So if you are feeling some sensitivity at 45 minutes, just take them out and work your way up to longer times. There is always a chance of sensisity when using trays. They are a deep stain removal method so you could experience a bit! I personally did not. I could do 2-3 hours right from the beginning and they never bothered my teeth or gums. Lastly I need to let you know trays are more expensive than other alternatives. But you know the old saying “You get what you pay for?” That totally applies here!

My Whitening History – Alright everyone, confession time! I’ve never liked my teeth, and I’ve always been very self conscious of them. One of those big reasons was the colour of them and how yellow they were! When I was graduating high school, my parents got me a teeth whitening appointment at my local dentist. The method was called “ZOOM” It was so extremely painful for me! I didn’t get to finish the sessions, as they do them all in the same appointment. So by the time it got to the last one my gums and teeth hurt so badly I had to get them to stop. Which is all fine and dandy if it wasn’t already 500$! Now I couldn’t even get the entire treatment! I spent the next 2 days in a lot of pain. They did give me gel & trays to put in for the sensitivity, but they did not make the pain go away. After those 2 days, I was very happy with how white my teeth were! A few months went by and they were already almost fully back to the way they looked prior to the whitening. I was so shocked! How did this happen!? I didn’t drink coffee, wine, soda, many sweets. (we all know I’m a coffee & wine addict now! haha) How did they go back to being so yellow so quickly!? At this point I was very disappointed with this method. (Along with my parents who paid for it!)  Since this experience, I’ve tried strips, meh, thats all I have to say about them. I never really noticed a difference & they never stayed on my teeth well. Charcoal, which I did notice a difference, but to be honest, I didn’t feel comfortable putting those ingredients on my teeth so much. So all these led me to custom trays & I couldn’t be more happy with how they’ve turned out!
